The Barangay Ginebra Kings had to fend off the Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters in the fourth period to emerge victorious, 110-102, on September 24 at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum to garner the eighth seed in the PBA Governor's Cup.
After leading by as many as 21 points in the third period, the Kings witnessed their lead get trimmed down to three, 101-98, with less than three minutes remaining in their do-or-die game after Larry Fonacier spearheaded the fourth quarter attack of the Tropang Texters. LA Tenorio then took over as he scored the last seven points of his team to put Ginebra out of harm's way.
The diminutive point guard scored 24 points, shooting a perfect 11/11 from the line, and also had six rebounds, ten assists, and three steals in 39 minutes of action. Import Dior Lowhorn topscored with 31 points and grabbed ten rebounds as Chris Ellis also had a double-double with 19 markers and 12 boards. Mark Caguioa fouled out after scoring 18.
Barangay Ginebra faces sister team Petron Blaze Boosters on Thursday, and the former needs to win twice to advance to the semifinals.
Fonacier lit up the scoreboard with 31 points, while reinforcement Courtney Fells had 26 markers for TNT. Jayson Castro is the other double-digit scorer with 14.
