Meralco enters semis; Alaska forces sudden death playoff

The Alaska Aces recovered from 12 points down early in the final period to win, 112-105, on September 25 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum to set a date for another meeting with the San Mig Coffee Mixers.

The Coffee Mixers led 93-81 before JVee Casio targeted Wendell McKines for a transition slam dunk to cap a 17-4 rally for the Aces, midway of the fourth. Casio then canned in a four-point play for the go-ahead basket, 102-99. Another open court slam and a completed and-one play by McKines practically put the game away.

The Alaska reinforcement topscored with 38 points, while Casio had 21 markers, six assists, and three steals. Cyrus Baguio, who was one of the key players in the game for Alaska, fouled out with 17.

The Aces and San Mig Coffee will meet yet again on Friday.

Meanwhile in the first game, the Meralco Bolts upended Barako Bull Energy Cola, 86-68, to become the first team to enter the semifinals of the PBA Governor's Cup. Reynel Hugnatan was adjudged the best player of the game with 18 points, shooting 9/15 from the field, while putting in 12 rebounds and two blocks.

Games tomorrow pit the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters and GlobalPort Batang Pier in the first game to be followed by the tussle between sister teams Petron Blaze Boosters and Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings.
